Franz Gertsch

Franz Gertsch, born in 1930 in Mörigen (Bern), is one of the most important Swiss artists of the present day. From his international breakthrough at "documenta 5" in Kassel in 1972 to the present day, Gertsch has created a rich body of painterly and graphic work.

Woodcuts occupy a special place in the work of Franz Gertsch. With a hitherto unknown precision in execution and in monumental formats, which alone push the limits of paper production, Gertsch has opened up new dimensions with this traditional medium.

One example is the oversized woodcut "Doris," which long hung in the office of former Federal Councillor Johannes Schneider-Ammann in the Federal Palace and now adorns the entrance to the beautiful and historic premises of Chefinvest. The exhibition will include other portraits "Bagatelle IV - Silvia ", "Grasses", "Ufersteine", "Bagatelle II - butterbur" woodcuts.

The exhibition was a cooperation with the Franz Gertsch Museum in Burgdorf and was conceived and curated by Christina Scheublein (SCHEUBLEIN Fine Art) and Arno Stein (Franz Gertsch Museum).
